Compare and contrast Facebook and Twitter.

If your like me, you are probably wondering why someone would chose to compare and contrast the differences between Facebook and Twitter. However, its actually pretty straight forward. You will see that both Facebook and Twitter have there own uses and places where information and news is shared, yet both are used be different demographics and reach a different audience.

Facebook is by far the most used social media that is currently out there, with more then 2.45 billion monthly active users and 1.62 million people active per day. The reach of Facebook is endless, and is the fifth most downloaded app and third most visited website. Facebook has seen a growth in seniors using their platform as a means to gain access to the news, as well as stay in contact with their families. Another interesting fact is that women are more likely to create meaningful Facebook groups, as well as they are more active on Facebook then male users.

However, if you look at Twitter the numbers a slightly different. Twitter’s premise is tweets which are 250 character long and allows anyone to “have a voice” and express their opinions on topics which are trending or going viral. Even though Twitter has a smaller user base then Facebook, its interesting to look at the demographic. U.S based twitter users are younger, and have more education and higher income then the general U.S population. Twitter users also tend to have collage degrees and are Democratic, which was surprising to me due to the large number of Trump supporters who follow his account.

In conclusion, Even though both Facebook and Twitter are social media platforms. They are both used by different demographics for different types of content. Facebook’s organic content fits nicer with its target user base, while Twitter does a great job at using its structured content to engage their users. In the end of the day, no matter which demographic you fit into, either platform will help you stay connected and engaged with your online community of choice.
